Onion & Honey Syrup – Traditional Remedy with Modern Value

For centuries, people have turned to simple kitchen remedies to soothe coughs, colds, and seasonal discomfort. One of the most popular is the onion and honey syrup, often passed down as a “grandmother’s recipe.” While it may sound unusual at first, both ingredients have scientifically proven properties that make this natural remedy more than just folklore.

🌿 How It’s Made

  1. Take a medium onion (red or white – both work, but red onions have extra antioxidants).
  2. Cut off the top and carefully scoop out the center with a spoon until about halfway.
  3. Fill the hollow with raw honey.
  4. Let it sit for 6–8 hours (or overnight).
  5. The honey will draw out the juices from the onion, creating a sweet, medicinal syrup.

👉 This syrup can be taken by the spoonful, usually 1–2 teaspoons several times a day.
