Daniel’s voice cracked. “I – I didn’t mean—”

“No,” Jonathan said. “But you did it. And intentions don’t erase damage. You’re losing control, and the person paying the price is the one who loves you most.”
Silence filled the room.
“Apologize,” Jonathan said quietly. “Not to please me. Because it’s the right thing to do.”
Daniel turned to his mother, shame written across his face.
“Mom… I’m sorry.”
Margaret met his eyes. In them, she saw the boy he once was—and the man he had become.
“I never wanted a perfect son,” she whispered. “Only a respectful one.”
Daniel nodded, tears gathering. “I know. I’m so sorry. I’ll change. I’ll get help if I need to.”
“You will,” Jonathan said. “Starting with the leave I recommended months ago. Step back before you break completely.”
Daniel nodded again, defeated but finally aware.
Margaret approached him slowly. She didn’t embrace him—she wasn’t ready yet. She simply placed a hand on his shoulder.
