Most Don’t Know: How to Grow Mint from Cuttings in Hanging Plastic Bottles

4. Prepare the Plastic Bottles

  1. Clean bottles thoroughly.

  2. Cut them in half horizontally. Use the bottom half as the planter.

  3. Drill or pierce drainage holes at the bottom.

  4. Make two small holes near the rim to thread string or wire for hanging.

5. Take and Prepare Mint Cuttings

  1. Cut 4–6 inch stems just below a leaf node (where leaves meet the stem).

  2. Remove lower leaves, leaving a few pairs at the top.

  3. Place cuttings in water immediately if not planting right away.

6. Root the Cuttings in Water

  • Place cuttings in a glass of water with nodes submerged.

  • Keep in a bright location but out of direct midday sun.

  • Change water every few days.

  • Roots should form within 1–2 weeks (1–2 inches long).
