Homemade Doughnuts

Step 4: Fry the Doughnuts

  1. Heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a deep, heavy-bottomed pot to 350-375°F (175-190°C). Use a candy thermometer for accuracy.
  2. Carefully place a few doughnuts in the hot oil, being careful not to overcrowd the pot.
  3. Fry each side for about 1-2 minutes or until they’re golden brown. Use a slotted spoon to flip and remove them.
  4. Place the fried doughnuts on a paper towel-lined plate to remove excess oil.

Step 5: Make the Glaze

  1. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until you have a smooth glaze.

Step 6: Glaze and Decorate

  1. While the doughnuts are still warm, dip each one into the glaze to coat them evenly.
  2. Allow any excess glaze to drip off, and place the doughnuts on a wire rack to set.
  3. Optionally, add your favorite toppings like sprinkles, chopped nuts, shredded coconut, or chocolate chips while the glaze is still wet.

Step 7: Serve and Enjoy

  1. Once the glaze has set, serve your homemade doughnuts and enjoy them warm. They’re best eaten on the same day they’re made for ultimate freshness.

Homemade doughnuts are a delightful indulgence that brings joy to any occasion. With a little time and effort, you can create these pillowy pastries that are perfect for breakfast, brunch, or anytime you want to satisfy your sweet cravings.
