The authors explain, as seen on Healthy Holistic Living, that the group of participants who consumed baking soda solution experienced a change in the types of immune cells which were activated in the spleen, that is, the pro-inflammatory ones reduced while the anti-inflammatory ones elevated.
Since these cells are also present in the kidneys and blood, baking soda is often promoted as a natural remedy for chronic kidney illness. So, the researchers also wanted to find out how baking soda could better the renal function.
The inflammatory to anti-inflammatory shift was noticed in the kidneys and in the blood, not just in the spleen.
