- In a large, wide saucepan, mix berries, water, 1 cup sugar, 1/4 teaspoon salt, and lemon extract. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 5 minutes.
- For dumplings: combine flour, 1 tablespoon sugar, baking powder, 1/4 teaspoon salt, nutmeg, and milk. Stir until mixed.
- Drop dumpling batter by tablespoonfuls into the berry mixture. Cover tightly and simmer for 15 minutes.
