I can still recall the exact moment my heart sank.
It was early evening when I arrived home from work—earlier than usual. On the way, I had stopped at the bakery to pick up my husband’s favorite bread, hoping to surprise him. The house was unusually quiet when I opened the door. No TV, no music—only the faint hum of the bathroom fan down the hall.
Then I heard it.
Soft laughter.
A woman’s giggle. Familiar. Far too familiar.
My steps slowed as I moved deeper into the house, my pulse racing. The bathroom door was slightly ajar, light spilling into the hallway. I froze when I heard my husband’s voice—low, playful—and then another giggle answered him.
My sister’s giggle.
