How to recognize nocturnal cramps?

A nocturnal muscle cramp is characterized by a sensation of extreme tension in the muscle, accompanied by sharp pain. This can last from a few seconds to several minutes, often occurring as you relax or in the middle of the night. Afterward, the muscle may remain tender for several hours.
