I’ve Never Cooked Sausages This Way Before — But It’s Truly Transformative!
If you’ve been cooking sausages the same old way — pan-fried or grilled — get ready for a game-changer. This method is so easy and produces sausages that are tender on the inside, crisp and caramelized on the outside, and infused with incredible flavor. Once you try it, you might never go back to your old routine.
The secret? Letting your sausages slowly cook with onions, butter, and broth (or apple cider!) in the slow cooker or oven. The gentle heat coaxes out the rich, savory flavors while keeping them juicy and succulent. The result is sausages that practically melt in your mouth, with a glossy, golden finish that’s hard to resist.
Ingredients
8 pork sausages (or your favorite kind: Italian, bratwurst, or chicken sausage)
2 large onions, sliced
3 tablespoons butter
½ cup beef broth or apple cider
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce (optional but adds great depth)
Freshly ground black pepper to taste
Chopped parsley for garnish (optional)
Directions
1. Prepare the Ingredients
Slice the onions into thick rings and layer them on the bottom of your slow cooker or a deep baking dish. Add the butter on top.
2. Add the Sausages
Lay the sausages over the onions. Pour the broth or cider over everything and drizzle with Worcestershire sauce if using.
3. Cook Low and Slow
